Roger W. Lauer, 53, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, died Saturday, September 15, 2007, at his home. Visitation will begin after 12:00 noon on Wednesday, September 19, 2007, at the Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. that evening. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, September 20, 2007, at the Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Sue Cubbage officiating. Burial will be in the Forest Home Cemetery. Memorials have been established to the Wesley Chapel Church and the Henry County 4-H. Born June 30, 1954, in Mt. Pleasant, IA, Roger Wayne was the son of Roland D. and Helen R. Martin Lauer. He grew up in the Wesley Chapel neighborhood north of Mt. Pleasant and was a 1972 graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School. He attended Northeast Missouri State University in Kirksville, MO, and graduated with an associates degree in Auto Mechanics. On December 17, 1977, he married Paula Hagglund in Ottumwa, IA. Roger farmed the family farm with his dad for 33 years. They also raised feeder pigs for 20 years. As a youth Roger was a member of the Champion Clippers 4-H Club, participated in local tractor pulling events as a young man, and enjoyed assisting his children in showing 4-H pigs in later years. Roger was a member of Wesley Chapel Church. He was a member of the Research Farm at Ainsworth and belonged to the Henry County Pork Producers. Roger was a member and served on the Prairie Ag Coop board in Mt. Union for nine years. He especially liked attending grain marketing and weather analyst meetings. Roger was an avid fisherman and hunter. Along with his parents of Mt. Pleasant, IA, Roger is survived by one son, Ryan Lauer and his wife Sarah of Mt. Pleasant, IA; one daughter, Renee Lauer of Mt. Pleasant, IA; and one sister, Donna and her husband William Stradt of Bettendorf, IA. He is also survived by one aunt, Lois Palmer of Kansas City, MO, and two nephews Martin Stradt and his wife Kristen of Portage, MI, and Adam Stradt and his wife Laura of Cedar Rapids, IA. Roger was preceded in death by his grandparents, Gilbert and Dorothy Lauer and Aitken and Lillie Martin and two uncles, Perry Martin and Ned Palmer.
