Rodney Nettleton 62, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, died Thursday, July 30, 2015 at his home surrounded by family. Rod's wishes were to be directly cremated. There will be no formal services. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in his memory. Memorials may be sent to Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel, P.O. Box 656, Mt. Pleasant, IA 52641 Born November 26, 1952 in Muscatine, IA, Rodney Ray was the son of Clyde and Rosa Bell Nettleton. He was a graduate of Muscatine High School. Rod studied horticulture and worked as the property manager of the Waterfall Garden in Seattle, WA for many years. The Garden is the site of the original United Parcel Service Center in the United States. In more recent years, he was engaged in freelance property management. Rod's outlook on life was extraordinary. He enjoyed reading "Leaves of Grass" by Walt Whitman, and living life to its fullest and enjoying every moment with a smile, a joke and exploring all that life had to offer. A lover of all animals, he was particularly fond of his pugs; Pugsley and Otis. He rescued and gave homes to many shelter animals. Rod was a great cook and entertained family and friends throughout the year, and especially during the beloved holiday seasons. Survivors include his life-long companion, Raynaldo "Ray" Ramos of Mt. Pleasant, IA; a brother, Robert William (Patricia) Nettleton of Rockport, TX; a niece, Tina Marie Nettleton; father-in-law, Juan Becerra of Muscatine, IA; his brother-in-law, Roy (Brandy) Becerra of Wapello, IA; two sisters-in-law, Becky Garcia of Fruitland, IA and Chole Becerra of Muscatine, IA; and numerous other nieces and nephews. Also surviving are his four legged family members; Jet, Coco, Nicki and Birdie. Rod was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers and a sister.
