Rodney Joseph Hoover, 59, of Trenton, IA, died Sunday, December 18, 2011, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, following a brief illness. His body has been cremated and will be interred at a private family service at a later date. Friends may sign the register and leave memorials at Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel from 12-4 p.m. on Thursday, December 22, 2011. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 5-8 p.m. at the Moose Lodge with a time of sharing memories at 6:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the family. The son of Walter Joseph and Pearl Arlene "Connie" (DeWitt) Hoover, Rodney was born on May 23, 1952 in Mt. Pleasant, IA. He graduated from Mt. Pleasant Community High School. He attended the law enforcement academy at Camp Dodge in Des Moines, IA. In 1994 he married Michelle Scanlon in Trenton, IA. They later divorced but remained close friends. He was a lifelong resident of Henry County. Rodney began working as a Henry County Deputy Sheriff. He later worked for Packers Sanitation. For many years he owned and operated Dirty Rotten Rodney's Rome Tap. For most of his life he worked as a self employed construction worker. He was a member and current administrator of the Mt. Pleasant Moose Lodge #1003 and a member of the Moose Legion. His hobbies included hunting and camping. He especially enjoyed playing cards with his friends. Friends knew that Rodney would help them in any way. He was raised and confirmed in St. Alphonsus Catholic Church. Survivors include two sisters Janet Ensminger and Mary Ann (Bruce) Smith all of Mt. Pleasant; a brother-in-law Roger ("Vern") Messer of Williford, AR; a sister-in-law Judy (John) Warning of Lockridge; his friend and ex-wife Michelle Krabill of Mt. Pleasant; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, a sister Kathy Messer; a brother Ronnie Hoover; and a brother-in-law Donnie Ensminger.
