WELLMAN - Roberta Christiansen passed away Monday July 3, 2017, on her 90th birthday at Parkview Manor in Wellman, following an extended illness. She moved to Parkview in September of 2015.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, July 8, 2017 at the Asbury United Methodist Church in Wellman. Burial will be at a later date in the Wellman Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2-7 PM on Friday, July 7, 2017 at the Powell Funeral Home in Wellman where the family will greet friends from 5-7 PM. Roberta Jean Moore was born on July 3, 1927, the daughter of Alfred and Katy (Hinrichs) Moore.
She lived all of her young life in the Jackson County area. She graduated from Oxford Junction in 1945. Roberta was united in marriage to Johnnie Pegorick on February 14, 1946 and they traveled around the U.S while he was in the Army. They settled down, began farming and had two daughters, Vicki and Christi. The couple later divorced. In May 1959 Roberta and Gunther Christiansen were married and had three sons, Kevin, Brian and Alan.
Roberta and husband Gunther lived their entire married life in the Wellman community. Roberta was noted for her tasty baking skills, homemade pies, doughnuts and cinnamon bread for various community fundraisers.
Roberta worked at Owens Brush/Oral B for over twenty years. She also refinished furniture and did wallpapering. She and Gunther bought the "Carr" house and restored it and brought back its historic beauty to the community. The restoration was featured in the Cedar Rapids Gazette. While raising her children, Roberta also did babysitting in her home for many people in the community. She was a talented seamstress and made many formals for many area residents.
It gave Roberta great pleasure to follow her grandchildren's sporting events and she cheered the Golden Hawks on at two State Tournaments. She enjoyed dancing, flower gardening, crocheting and playing cards, Roberta was a member of the Wellman Red Hat Ladies, the Asbury United Methodist Church and a past member of Washington County Hospice Board.
Roberta is survived by her five children: Vicki Mosby and husband John of Eugene, Oregon; Chris Jirsa and husband Dan of Wellman; Kevin Christiansen and wife Judy of Wellman; Brian Christiansen and wife Brenda of Wellman; and Alan Christiansen and wife Janelle of Wellman. She has 11 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. She is also survived by three brothers: Merlin Moore of Anamosa, Larry Moore and wife Anne of East Moline, Illinois, Carlyle Moore of Mechanicsville, Iowa, three sisters: Gloria Bodkin and Marlene Levsen of Olin, Iowa and Coleen Townsend and husband Gary of Mechanicsville, Iowa; and special friends Anne Mann and Karen Dutweiler.
Roberta was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Gunther in 2000; four brothers Harlan and wife Roselee; Wylis, Delbert and wife Rosella; and Gerald Moore and two sisters: Wanda Petersen and husband Robert and Carol Bendixen; one grandson Tyler Mosby; three brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law.
