Roberta Callaway

October 16, 1936 — July 10, 2014

Roberta Mae Callaway, 77, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, passed away Thursday, July 10, 2014, at Park Place Elder Living. A visitation will begin at 1 p.m. on Sunday, July 13, 2014, at the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel where the family will receive friends from 4-6 p.m. that evening. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 14th, at the Memorial Chapel with Pastor Bryan Katchay officiating. Interment will be in Forest Home Cemetery. Memorials have been established to First Presbyterian Church and Midwest Old Threshers. Born October 16, 1936 in Mt. Pleasant, IA, Roberta Mae was the daughter of Merle O. and Mary M. Todd Scarff. She was a 1955 graduate of Mt. Pleasant Community High School. On August 17, 1955, she married Edward Callaway in Milan, IL. He preceded her in death on July 5, 2008. Roberta worked 15 years as the office manager at Mt. Pleasant Mental Health Institute. Then for 27 years, she worked as an Administrator Assistant at Southeast Iowa Electric Association. She retired in 1998. Roberta was a member of First Presbyterian Church. She volunteered as the Entertainment Chairman for Midwest Old Threshers for over 25 years. She loved bluegrass music and showing horses. Favorite hobbies included camping and crocheting. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Survivors include two daughters, Linda (Buddy) Fowler and Connie (Duane) Meth all of Mt. Pleasant, IA; a twin brother, Robert (Phyllis) Scarff of Mt. Pleasant, IA; three sisters, Helen Perrott of Mt. Pleasant, IA, Rosemary (Jim) Smith of Mt. Pleasant, IA and Patricia (Richard) Kerr of Burlington, IA; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Along with her husband, Ed, she is preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Ruth Van Trump.
