Robert W. Wright

Robert W. Wright, 91, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, passed away on Friday, December 14, 2018, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, IA.

Visitation will begin after 10:00 a.m., on Thursday, December 20, 2018, at Olson~Powell Memorial Chapel where, the family will greet friends from 12:30 until 1:30 p.m that afternoon. A memorial service, with military rites by the Henry County Honor Guard, will be held at 1:30 p.m. at the Memorial Chapel. Inurnment will be in Forest Home Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, gifts of love and friendship may be given to Mt. Pleasant Community School District Foundation to be used to support the reorganized Future Farmers of America (F.F.A.) program. Born May 9, 1927, in Henry County, IA, Robert Wayne was the son of Vern P. and Velma (Ford) Wright. He attended country school, followed by Pleasant Lawn School, and graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School. After high school, Robert enlisted in the United States Navy and was stationed in Guam during World War II. In 1950, he married Joan Gregg. They later divorced. On July 7, 1980, Robert married Carolyn (Blosser) Billingsley. She preceded him in death on March 7, 2016.

In his younger years, Robert was a farmer, worked at Spahn and Rose Lumber in New London, and was a production worker at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant. He also worked on the production line at Heatilator and was a guard at Mt. Pleasant Correctional Facility, from which he retired.

During high school, Robert participated in F.F.A. He enjoyed fishing and deer and coon hunting with his son. Robert was a lifelong Cubs fan, as well as a Chicago Bulls fan. He liked to watch rodeos, westerns, and cattle auctions on television.

Robert is survived by a son, Ron Wright of West Burlington, IA; a brother, Larry (Lori) Wright of Naperville, IL; and one nephew and several nieces.

Along with his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his wife; a sister, Joyce McKim; and a brother, Harold Wright.
