Robert Reid

Robert Reid, 87, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, passed away Friday, May 06, 2016, at Park Place Elder Care. Visitation will begin on Tuesday, May 10, 2016 after 1:00 p.m. at the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at the Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. Trey Hegar officiating. Burial will be on Wednesday, May 11, 2016, at 9:30 a.m., in Elm Grove Cemetery, Washington, IA. Memorials have been established to HCI Care Services and the First Presbyterian Church. On line condolences may be directed to www.olsonpowell.com Born April 4, 1929, in Alhambra, CA, Robert Gardner Reid was the son of Leland E. and Mildred Marie (Martin) Reid. Robert spent his formative years in California where he graduated from South Pasadena High School. He attended John Muir Junior College, Parsons College, UCLA and Claremont Men's College majoring in business education. Bob served for four years in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict as a Naval Aviation Electronics Specialist. He was discharged from active duty in August of 1955. After the war, he attended San Jose State College where he received his Masters of Science degree in Psychology. He then earned his credentials to be a school psychologist from Sacramento State College. For twenty years he worked as a school psychologist in the South Pasadena Unified School District. In 1998, Robert moved to Mt. Pleasant, where he attended the First Presbyterian Church and was a Resident Advocate at Arbor Court. He was also a member of the California Association of School Psychologists. Bob was a nature enthusiast and loved all of the great outdoors. He thoroughly enjoyed taking long walks. He especially enjoyed feeding the birds and continued to nurture them, even while a resident at Park Place. Survivors include three second cousins, John Pickford of Chicago, IL, Elizabeth Schreiber of Lakewood Ranch, FL and Louise Pickford of Denver, CO; special friends, Francis (Dean), Sally, Tanya, and Donna; along with many other friends and acquaintances.
