Hedrick, Iowa
Robert 'Bob' Morgan (79) died Thursday May 17th, 2012, at the Keokuk County Health Center after a long struggle with cancer. He leaves his wife of 56 years, Jennie (Hutton) Morgan of Hedrick, daughter Deborah (Kevin) Klopfenstein of Parker, AZ, son Bud (Tena) Morgan of Phoenix, AZ, grandchildren Adrienne and Adam Klopfenstein, great grandchildren Braidon and Baylee Klopfenstein, sisters Mary Jean Leichsenring of Homestead, Betty (Howard) Linder of Sigourney, Diane (Dave) Bruns of Washington, and half-siblings Madelon Hotchkiss and Merlin Morgan of Kersey, CO. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Jeffery, and half-sister Marjorie Baethke. Bob was born in Keswick to Philo and Nora (Hubbell) Morgan on June 6th, 1932. After graduating from Keswick High School, class of 1951, Bob joined the Navy where he served his country during the Korean Conflict aboard the USS Miller. Bob was a member of the Lacey Kerr VFW Post # 2308 and American Legion Post #19. After his return from the Navy, Bob returned to Keokuk County and worked as a mechanic. During this time, Bob met his wife Jennie, and on October 16th 1955 were married at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Together Bob and Jennie owned and managed the Sigourney Locker where they worked side by side for 28 years. After closing the locker, Bob opened a gun store in Sigourney, worked as a taxidermist, and drove a school bus. Bob will be remembered in the community, and by many of his bus riders, for his kindness and sense of humor. As an avid outdoorsman, Bob loved hunting, trapping and fishing. He was an awarded conservationist, giving back more to the land then he ever took. In his later years and up until the end, Bob enjoyed woodworking, gardening, and spending time with neighbor David Jasper and his cat Tommy. In keeping with his final wishes, Bob donated his body to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for research in the fight against cancer. There will be no services. Memorials may be made in Bob's name to Keokuk County Hospice or the Keokuk County Health Center Activity Fund and dropped off or mailed to Powell Funeral Home, P.O. Box 226, Sigourney, IA 52591.
