Robert Martin Headley

Williamsburg- Robert Martin Headley, was born November 18, 1931 in Burlington, Iowa, the son of Charles William and Bonnie Emilie (Peterson) Headley. Bob graduated from Hildreth High School in Hildreth, Nebraska in 1950. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1951 - 1955. He graduated from Kearney State Teachers College in 1959 and received his masters degree from the University of Iowa in 1968.

On August 29, 1957, Robert was united in marriage to Rosalie Sharron Ackley in Kearney, NE. Together they resided in Kearney for two years until moving to Glidden in 1959, and later moved to Williamsburg in 1961. Bob was a high school English teacher for two years in Glidden and 31 years at Williamsburg High School until his retirement in 1992. Bob was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, where he taught adult Sunday School for many years. He was a former member of the city council, Grand Lodge of Iowa - Stellapolis Lodge #391, HACAP and the Kearney VFW. He enjoyed golfing, reading, doing the daily crossword puzzle, visiting with members of the community and playing games and spending time with his family. Bob died on Monday, October 6, 2014 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, surrounded by his family, at the age of 82 years.

He is survived by his wife Rosalie of Williamsburg; two daughters: Marcia (Jack) Geyer of Rapid City, South Dakota and Diana (Ian) Richardson of Eugene, Oregon; four grandchildren: Colin & Dylan Geyer and Kate & Henry Richardson and a sister Georgia Wallentine of Burlington. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Bill Headley.


Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 PM on Friday, October 10, 2014 at St. Paul United Methodist Church, Williamsburg. Pastor James Parks will officiate. Visitation will be Friday from 1:00 - 3:00 PM at the church. A memorial fund has been established for the Williamsburg Public Library or St. Paul United Methodist Church.
