Robert Marion Blum, 56, of Wellman died Thursday, April 26, 2012 at the Hospice Center at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City surrounded by his family and friends. His wife Sandy and family says Robert was "Like A Rock" thru his 81/2 year battle with cancer. Robert was born May 10, 1955 in Washington, Iowa to Marion and Marjorie (Martin) Blum. He attended School at Mid-Prairie. Robert worked for Wayne's Service in Washington, owned and operated Kalona Tire and sold out in 1979 and in 1980 he began Robert's Fiberglass in Wellman where he was still operating. Robert married Joyce Irene Harvey on March 22, 1973, they had one daughter Jerri Lee, they later divorced. He married Sandy Plank at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa and he has two step children Tami Edwards and Derik Plank. Robert enjoyed many hobbies such as snowmobiling and tractor pulling. He and Sandy enjoyed showing their 41 Willys and 33 Willys hot rods all summer long. They would be out cruising or car showing every chance they could. Robert will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He leaves behind his wife Sandy of Wellman; children - Jerri Kron (Jim), Tami Edwards (David), Derik Plank (Shelly) all of Riverside; a sister - Nancy Baker of Woodbine; three brothers - Dan Rickerd (Nancy) of Lone Tree; William Blum (Mickey) of Crawfordsville; Terry Blum (Danette) of Wellman; six adoring grandchildren - Aaron, Averi, Kaitlyn, Sandra, Addison, Corbin; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Marion and Marjorie Blum; brother-in-law Dwight Baker; sister Jackie Blum; and granddaughter Chloe Plank. Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, April 29, 2012 at the Powell Funeral Home in Wellman. Pastor Gerry Kahler will officiate. Burial will be in the Wellman Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2-7 p.m. on Saturday at the Powell Funeral Home in Wellman where the family will greet friends from 4-7 p.m. A memorial fund has been established for St. Jude's.
