HARPER - Robert L. "Bob" White, age 83, of Harper, died Tuesday, March 14, 2006, at the Maplewood Manor in Keota, following a lengthy illness. Bob was born February 26, 1923 in Fonda, Iowa, to Ernest and Blanche (Mullins) White and graduated from Fonda High School. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 until 1946. On April 20, 1948 he was united in marriage to Marcella Peiffer in Clear Creek Township. They lived in Milwaukee, Wisconsin for a while before relocating to Harper. Bob worked at the Natural Gas Pipeline in Harper for 35 years, retiring in March of 1986. He was a member of the Holy Trinity Parish - St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, Lagos Acres Country Club and was an active member of the Knights of Columbus as a 4th Degree Knight. Bob enjoyed golfing, building golf clubs, coaching little league baseball, traveling and working on home improvement projects. Survivors include nine children: Richard White of Keota; Donna Dempsey of Ronan, Montana; Cheryl Pauli and husband Pat of Cascade, Montana; Robert White and wife Jaymee of Ronan, Montana; Roger White and wife Sonja of Greece; Russell White and wife Kim of Oak Harbor, Washington; Randall White of Keota; Ronald White and wife Wendy of Coralville; Rodney White and wife Lisa of Keota; 22 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren and two brothers: Mert White of Sioux City and Delbert White of Anoka, Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife: Marcella in 2005; brother: Lyle White and sister: Ethel VanSlyke. Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 18, 2006, at Holy Trinity Parish - St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Harper, with Rev. Marty Goetz officiating. Burial will be in the Holy Trinity Parish - St. Elizabeth Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, March 17, 2006, at the Powell Funeral Home in Keota where the family will greet friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. A Knights of Columbus Rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established for Maplewood Manor, Hospice of Washington County or the Knights of Columbus Scholarship Fund. Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Keota is handling the arrangements.
