Robert L. "Bob" Kinney, Sr., 90, formerly of Venice, FL, passed away on September 21, 2014 at the Atrium Village in Hills, IA. A memorial service will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 18, 2014 at the Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Venice, FL with Father Cal Davis, officiant. A memorial has been established with Iowa City Hospice, 1025 Wade Street, Iowa City, IA 52240. Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel of Mt. Pleasant, IA is assisting the family with arrangements. Born December 13, 1923 in Buffalo, NY, Robert Lathrop was the son of Jireh and Anna (Galula) Kinney. He graduated from high school in East Aurora, NY. After attending Syracuse University for one year, he graduated in 1951 with a degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Vermont. On January 13, 1945, he married Maydene Marion Nettie Miller. She preceded him in death on November 28, 2009 after nearly 65 years of marriage. Bob served as a navigator in the United States Army Air Corps during WWII. His training was in Sacramento, CA, and he was stationed in Indonesia, New Guinea and the Philippines. After serving his country and completing his degree, Bob worked as an Electrical Sales Engineer for General Electric in Indianapolis, IN. He retired after 35 years of work in 1986. A loving husband and father, he was an excellent golfer and enjoyed playing duplicate bridge. He was a 60 year member of the Green Mountain Masonic Lodge in Vermont and a member of the Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Venice, FL. Survivors include three children, Lynda (Ron) Stoops of Ft. Collins, CO, Rob (Mary Jo) Kinney of Coralville, IA, and Barbara Kinney of Venice, FL; a sister, Jane Enos, of Michigan; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Maydene; and a brother, Jack.
