Robert F. "Bob" King, 80, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, died Saturday, December 30, 2006, at the Park Place Long Term Care Unit. Visitation for Mr. King will be held on Tuesday, January 2, 2007, beginning after 12 noon, at the Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel of Mt. Pleasant, where the family will receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. that evening. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, at 10:30 a.m., at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Pat Youngquist and Rev. Jeannie Megorden officiating. Burial, with full military rites, will be in the Forest Home Cemetery. Memorials have been established to the First United Methodist Church or the Edd King Memorial Fountain. The son of Iliff F. and Flossie E. Ford King, Bob was born in Mt. Pleasant, IA, on December 1, 1926. He was a 1944 graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School. Following graduation he enlisted in the United States Army and served in World War II. On September 8, 1950, he married Mary E. Schmidt in Mt. Pleasant, IA. She survives. Bob was a produce manager for Swift Co. and then worked as a manager for Northern Propane in the Mt. Pleasant and Stockport areas. He bought and sold ponies. For 18 years, prior to his retirement in 1986, Bob worked for the Mt. Pleasant Community School District as the Buildings and Grounds Supervisor. Bob was a member of the First United Methodist Church and was also a member of the Bob Tribby American Legion Post #58, where he served as commander for several years. He was a former member of the Masonic Lodge and was a volunteer fireman for 13 years with the Mt. Pleasant Fire Department. Bob loved spending time with his family and enjoyed fishing and collectible cars. Along with his wife Mary, Bob is survived by one son, Tom King and his wife Jody of Manchester, IA; two grandsons, Nathan and Ryan King, both of Manchester, IA; two brothers, Wayne King and his wife Loree of Mt. Pleasant, IA, and Richard King and his wife Bonnie of Ankeny, IA; and one sister, Selma and her husband Wayne Simmons of Mt. Pleasant, IA; two sisters-in-law, Vi King and Sue King, both of Mt. Pleasant, IA. Bob was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Edd King and Ray King.
