Robert John Evans, age 87, of Brooklyn, passed away, Monday, March 20, 2017, at the Brooklyn Community Estate. Private graveside services will be held at a later date. Burial will be in the Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the State of Iowa FFA Foundations in support of beginning farmers, the East Poweshiek Ambulance Service or a charity of the individual’s choice. Kloster Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Robert is survived by his daughter Karen Rae (Frank) Soliday; two grandson’s Mike and Bart Soliday; two great grandsons Alex and Austin Soliday; and a daughter-in-law Kristine Soliday. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Glenna and his son Rob.

Robert Evans was born November 27, 1929, in Scott Township, Poweshiek County, the son of Earl L. and Alice M. Swindal Evans. He attended South Side Elementary School and Brooklyn Grade School. He graduated from Brooklyn High School in 1948. Robert had a passion for flying and obtained his private pilot’s license at the age of 18. He was united in marriage to Glenna Faye Keller on June 15, 1949, at the Madison Church of Christ, Brooklyn. He moved to the current family, century farm south of Brooklyn in 1931 and resided at that farm home until December 2016, when he became a resident of Brooklyn Community Estate. Robert was a lifetime farmer. He also owned and operated Evans Construction for over 35 years, working on many major projects for the state and private industry. He was the State Vice President for the FFA organization from 1949-1950 and continued to support many innovative farming techniques as well as assisting young beginning farmers throughout his life. Robert volunteered for the East Poweshiek Ambulance service for many years.
