Robert Joe Dunton

Robert Joe Dunton, age 65 of Marion, passed away, Saturday, July 3, 2021 at St. Luke’s Unity Point, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Monday, July 12, 2021, at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo with Rev. Tim Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Sixteen Cemetery, Thornburg, Iowa. The family will receive friends from 12 – 1:00 PM on Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the family in Robert’s name.

Robert is survived by his mother, Virginia Wagamon Dunton of Marengo; his siblings. Suzanne Handy of Lewistown, MO, Patricia Baugh (Gene) of Marengo, and William Dunton of Toledo, Iowa; nieces and nephews, Treesa Todd, Anthony Handy, Melanie Baugh Hankins (Alan), Kellee Jo (Russell) Klostermann, Dustin Dunton, Kayse Dunton, Codee (Jesse) Gerlach, Jacqeline Schropp, Charles (Mary) Schropp, Brenda Davla, Catherine Roach, Donald (Crystal) Dunton and Debra (Jamie) Merrell; and numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father Lloyd Dunton, Sr., a brother Lloyd “Buddy” Dunton, Jr., a sister, Phyllis Schropp, a niece Constance Schropp, and a great nephew.

Robert Joe Dunton was born November 28, 1955 in Sigourney, Iowa, the son of Lloyd Eugene Dunton,Sr. and Virginia Phyllis Wagamon Dunton. He attended the Iowa Valley Schools in Marengo, and then moved to the western United States. In 1992 Robert returned to Iowa, locating to the Cedar Rapids and Marion area. He was employed by Brown’s Truck Company and also for Nick’s Cab Company for many years. In his free time, Robert enjoyed having coffee and spending time with his friends. He also loved cars and trucks.
