Robert J. Bob Stafford, 102, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, passed away on Thursday, October 11, 2018, at Savannah Heights.
Mr. Staffords body has been cremated. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorials may be directed to HCI Care Services or the First United Methodist Church. Born October 30, 1915, in Downey, IA, Robert James was the son of James Robert and Erna (Meyer) Stafford. He graduated from West Liberty High School and attended a year of college at Central College in Pella, IA, and one year of business college at AIC in Davenport, IA. Bob married Violet Sorensen at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. On July 24th they observed their 78th wedding anniversary.
Bob worked at various jobs over the years, which were usually farm related. He was part owner of a grain business in Tipton, IA, for 25 years. When he moved to Mt. Pleasant in 1971, he worked in the laboratory for McAllister Seed Company until 1985 when he retired.
Bob was an active member of the First United Methodist Church. He wrote many short essays which were published in the Des Moines Register. He was also an avid sports fan and enjoyed bothering politicians.
Survivors include his wife, Violet of Mt. Pleasant, IA; one son, Dr. Richard (Carole) Stafford of Niskayuna, NY; one daughter-in-law, Vicki Stafford of San Clemente, CA; four grandsons, Jay Stafford, Thomas Stafford, John Stafford and Benjamin Stafford; and seven great-grandchildren, Nathan, Ella, Graham, Wren, Luke, Antigone and Simon.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Dr. Jerald Stafford; and a sister, Esther.
