SIGOURNEY- Robert R. "Bob" Hamilton, age 86, of Sigourney, died Thursday, May 10, 2007, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, following a short illness. Bob was born on December 22, 1920 in Sigourney, IA, the son of Homer Gibbons and Muriel Esther Schultz Hamilton. He attended Sigourney schools and enlisted in the Army Air Force on October 26, 1942. He was a radio operator on a B-24 and served in the South Pacific during World War II. He was discharged on November 23, 1945. Bob was united in marriage to Muriel Kathleen Marner on January 20, 1945 in Riverside, CA. He resided in Sigourney his entire life, worked at Spaghett's for 40 years, and retired in 1986. Bob enjoyed fishing at Lake Wenasaga in Ontario, raising roses, listening to gospel music and playing cards with friends. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post # 2308. Survivors include his wife: Muriel Hamilton of Sigourney; daughters Ann Hamilton & husband Steve Ellis of Iowa City, IA; Tracy Hamilton and husband Bill Grove of Cedar Rapids, IA; a sister Nancy Stull of Sigourney, IA and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Gregory Hamilton and a brother Bill Hamilton. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 12, 2007, at the Reynolds-Powell Funeral Chapel in Sigourney with Dr. James Seeber officiating. Burial will be at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Sigourney. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 11, 2007, at the Reynolds-Powell Funeral Chapel in Sigourney. A memorial fund has been established for Sigourney Garden Club. Reynolds-Powell Funeral Chapel and Cremation Service in Sigourney is handling the arrangements.
