KEOTA-Robert E. "Bob" Baughman, age 86, formerly of Keota, died Thursday, November 1, 2012, in Augusta, Georgia. Bob was born February 7, 1926 on a farm southeast of Keota, the son of Curvin and Margaret (Seitsinger) Baughman. He attended rural schools in the South English and North English areas and graduated from North English High School in 1943. Shortly after, he entered the U.S. Navy where he served for 32 months, mainly aboard the U.S.S. Tappahannock in the Pacific Theatre. After military service he was employed in heavy high-line construction, having worked in 24 states for 43 years before retiring in Augusta, Georgia in 1989. Having worked in the area, he decided to make Augusta his winter home for 23 years and lived in Davenport in summer months during that time. Bob was a lifetime member of the Keota V.F.W. Post # 4716. Survivors include two brothers: Daryl (Irene) Baughman and Cleo Baughman; two sisters: Leita Manthei and Margaret Harriman; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister: Marjorie (Laymon) Coble; brothers: Kenneth and Cloyce Baughman; brothers-in-law: Jerry Manthei and Dale Harriman; sister-in-law: Katie (Mrs. Cleo) Baughman and nephew: Doug Roberts. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 7, 2012, at Powell Funeral Home in Keota, with Rev. Frances Baumert officiating. Burial will be at Brethren Cemetery in rural South English. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established for the Keota V.F.W. Post # 4716. Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Keota is caring for Bob and his family.
