Robert D. McTee, 79, of Fairfield, IA, died Sunday, July 12, 2009, at Arbor Court in Mt. Pleasant, IA. Visitation for Bob will be held on Wednesday, July 15, 2009, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., at the Fairfield Friends Church, 1209 South Sixth Street, in Fairfield, IA. Funeral services will be at 7:00 p.m. that evening with Pastor Dave Elmore officiating. Memorials have been established to the Fairfield Friends Church for youth ministry. Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel of Mt. Pleasant is in charge of arrangements. The son of James and Nanny Frances Martin McTee, Robert Dean was born on August 29, 1929, near Crawfordsville, IA. He was a 1947 graduate of New London High School. On September 1, 1948, he married Virginia May Derby in Burlington, IA. She survives. Bob, also known to some as Dean, had a passion for farming. For many years he enjoyed farming in the Lockridge and Brighton area before moving to rural Fairfield in 1964. Following the move, he continued to farm while also working at Acco Chain and Lifting (Louden's). He had a lead man classification and worked on the heavy cranes. He was a member of International Machinist and Aero Space Workers. A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Bob made his family his top priority. He was a skilled welder and was gifted at making practical objects out of iron. A member of the Friends Church, Bob liked spending time visiting with his many friends and fishing. He was partial to cattle and a faithful companion to his pets, especially his dogs. Along with his wife, Virginia of sixty-one years, Bob is survived by two daughters, Connie (H. Burr) Bryant of Alburnett, IA, and Carol (James) Roach of Dallas, TX and one son, Jerry (Nancy) McTee of Gadsden, AL. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Tamera Bryant, Harold (Michelle) Bryant, Chelsea Roach, Christopher Roach, Sara Hull, and Megan Hull. Bob was preceded in death by one sister, Mabel Kincaid, and three brothers, Charles McTee, Lawrence McTee, and William McTee.
