Robert Kent Casteel was born on January 21, 1924, in Oakwood, Illinois, the son of George Kenton and Eunice Mary McClellan Casteel. He graduated from Oakwood Township High School. He was a member of the U.S. Army Air Corps, in the China Burma India area. On October 22, 1950, he married Ethel Morse in North English. Since their marriage, they have resided in the North English Community, where Bob was very active. Bob was a local entrepreneur. He owned and operated grocery stores in North and South English, as well as a bakery in North English. He was a member of the North English United Methodist Church, Rotary, VFW, American Legion, Masonic Lodge, the EVCC Board of Directors, since inception and a volunteer for the North English Fire Department. Bob became a resident of the English Valley Care Center in December of 2004. Bob died on Friday, December 18, 2009, at the English Valley Care Center, at the age of 85 years. He is survived by his wife Ethel of North English; 3 daughters: Maxine (Armel) MacDonald, Marilyn (Jeff) Romine and Mariann Casteel Gibson; 6 grandchildren: Doug MacDonald, Heidi (Tony) Zanussi, Brian (Anne) Romine, Amanda (Matt) Meeker, Melaina Gibson and Trey Gibson; a sister Vera (Bob) Tinsley of Leesburg, GA and a brother Rick (Joni)Casteel of Newton, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother Terry Casteel; and a sister Mary Moore. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, December 21, 2009, at the Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North English. Pastor Ben Wilson will officiate. Visitation will be on Sunday from 4-6 PM at the Powell Funeral Home with a Masonic Service at 6:00 PM. Burial will be in the North English Cemetery at a later date.
