Robert "Bob" Stewart

Robert Gerald (Bob) Stewart, 64, of Pismo Beach, CA, formerly of Salem, IA, died Friday, August 3, 2007, at the French Hospital in San Luis Obispo, CA. Visitation will begin after 12:00 noon on Friday, August 10, 2007, at the Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Friday evening. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 11, 2007, at 2:00 p.m. at the Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Kirk Bennett officiating. Burial will be in the Salem East Cemetery with full military rites provided by the Henry County Honor Guard. Memorials have been established to the Salem Library and the American Kidney Fund. Born April 21, 1943, in Virginia, IL, Bob was the son of Alfred and Evelean Mayhew Stewart. He was raised in Salem, IA and attended Mt. Pleasant School. He served in the Army from 1961-1964, stationed in Ft. Leonard Wood, MO, and Hawaii. Bob married Florence Matsuura in Honolulu, HI on February 8, 1964. He moved to California in 1967. Bob later married Linda Lozano on September 1, 1984, at The Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. Bob was a skilled carpenter and was employed through Martin Resorts. He loved to tinker and work with his hands. Bob enjoyed spending time at their cabin on the lake, where he would fish, boat, and enjoy the outdoors. He enjoyed dirt track and NASCAR racing. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and family whenever possible. Survivors include his wife, Linda; a son, Rodney (Melissa) Stewart of Mt. Pleasant, IA; two daughters, Brenda (Rick) Stewart of West Burlington, IA and Danica (Matt) Lozano of San Jose, CA; two grandsons, Michael Rostenbach of Schaumburg, IL, and Adam Stewart of West Burlington, IA; and three granddaughters, Caitlin Walker of West Burlington, IA, Lauren Stewart of Mt. Pleasant, IA, and Lydia Stewart of Mt. Pleasant, IA. He is also survived by seven brothers, Sterling (Linda) Stewart of Boise, ID, Jerry (Ardie) Stewart of Santa Maria, CA, Jim (MaryAnne) Stewart of Rock Island, IL, Willie (Mary Lou) Stewart of Salem, IA, Rick (Holly) Stewart of Coal Valley, IL, Don Stewart of Denmark, IA, and Gene (Pam) Stewart of Mt. Pleasant, IA; four sisters, Maxine (Larry) Freeman of Bettendorf, IA, Wanda (Neil) Watts of Burlington, IA, Sandi (Ron) Benge of Mt. Pleasant, IA and Brenda (Jeff) Baker of Las Vegas, NV. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant grandson, Eric Jordan Walker. Memorials have been established to the Salem Library and the American Kidney Fund.
