Robert "Bob" McClure

Robert R. "Bob" McClure, 92, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, died Monday, October 13, 2014, at Arbor Court in Mt. Pleasant. IA. Visitation will begin at 12 noon on Thursday, October 16th, at Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel, where the family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. that evening. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Friday, October 17th, at Trenton Missionary Church with Pastor David Forrester officiating. Burial will follow in White Oak Cemetery with military honors accorded by the Henry County Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to White Oak Cemetery and Trenton Missionary Church. Born July 16, 1922, in Mt. Pleasant, IA, Robert Richard was the son of Ralph and Ada Lane McClure. He was a graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School. On November 12, 1942, Bob joined the U.S. Navy and served on the USS West Point during World War II. He was discharged three years later. On October 1, 1945, Bob married Lucille Lessenger in Iowa City. She preceded him in death on November 14, 2012. Bob worked as a car salesman for a total of 50 years with service between Ervin Motors, Shafer Motors, McWhirter Chevrolet and Boles Auto Sales. He was a member of Trenton Missionary Church and V.F.W. Post 2561. His favorite activity was watching his grandchildren play sports. Bob was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and golfing. Using the skills learned from his service in the Navy, Bob was an excellent baker. Bob is survived by one son, Jim (Sara) McClure of Mt. Pleasant, IA; one daughter, Connie Church of Moravia, NY; and six grandchildren, Robert McClure, Michael McClure, Elizabeth Gaiffe, Josh Hinkle, Cally Schlee, and Christine Walker, along with their spouses and 15 great-grandchildren. Along with his wife, Bob was preceded in death by a daughter, Patti Whitsel; a son-in-law, William Church; three brothers, John McClure, Don McClure, and Carlos McClure; and three sisters, Elsie Swailes, Alice Smith, and Marguerite Peterson.
