Robert G. Allee, 88, of Mt. Pleasant, IA died Friday, April 17, 2009, at the Park Place Long Term Care Unit in Mt. Pleasant. Visitation will begin after 12:00 noon on Tuesday, April 21, 2009, at the Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. that evening. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 22, 2009, at 10:30 a.m, at the Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel with Mr. Bryan Katchay officiating. Burial will be in the Forest Home Cemetery. Memorials have been established to the American Diabetes Association of Eastern Iowa. Born May 24, 1920, in Belle Plaine, IA, Bob was the son of Ora and Dora Miller Allee. He graduated from Belle Plaine High School in 1938. On May 25, 1940, he married Mildred Kathryn Meyer in Kirksville, MO. Bob and Millie lived in Cedar Rapids for two years following their marriage. The couple then moved to Mt. Pleasant, IA to their longtime home on Locust Street. Bob was employed for many years by Colonial Bakery in Mt. Pleasant. He also worked at Beavers Grocery Store. Later he worked for Sweetheart and Peter Pan Bakeries. After retiring from the "bread" business, Bob worked for the Mt. Pleasant School System as a custodian at Salem Elementary. When he retired from the school system, he labored for H. Eugene Smith Construction as an office helper. Bob and Millie spent many winters in Texas, traveling there in their motor home. They had many trips together over the years which Bob always recorded on his video camera. Bob had a passion for working in his yard and garden, and everything he did was done meticulously. Survivors include two daughters, Sandra (Rich) Wendel of Urbana, IA, and Carol (Bill) Calloway of Cedar Rapids, IA; a daughter-in-law, Sue Allee of Cedar Falls, IA. Also surviving are seven grandsons and spouses, fifteen great-grandchildren, several sisters-in-law, and many nieces and nephews. Robert was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Millie; a son, Gary Allee; one sister; five brothers; and by a grandson, Matthew Wendel.
