SIGOURNEY-Rita Thomas, age 94, of Sigourney, died Thursday, August 4, 2005, at the Keokuk County Health Center in Sigourney, following a brief illness. Rita was born November 8, 1910, in Keswick, to Hugh and Mary (Bender) Brady. She graduated from Keswick High School and received Normal Training. On October 27, 1941 she married Dean "Boge" Thomas in Keswick. Rita taught rural school and served as the Postmistress in Keswick for over 30 years, retiring in 1971. She lived in Keswick most of her life and wintered in South Padre Island, Texas for 25 years. Rita was a member of the Keswick Women's Club, American Legion Auxiliary, Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Keswick and St. Mary Catholic Church in Sigourney and enjoyed fishing, shelling and playing bridge. Survivors include two daughters: Sarah Horras of Richland and Suzi Mohr and husband Carl of Sigourney; four grandchildren: Mary Ann Mohr, Maureen Mohr, Heather Horras and Shawn Horras; one sister: Edna McKenna of North English; two sisters-in-law: Mary Lou Brady of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Helen Thomas Ramsey of Bella Vista, Arkansas; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Dean in 1984; grandson: Shawn Howard Horras; two brothers: Tom Brady and George Brady and five sisters: Delphia Devine, Frances Hayes, Sister Mary Hugh Brady, Ellen Doyle and Mary Baird. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, August 8, 2005, at the St. Mary Catholic Church in Sigourney with Rev. Philip Ryan officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary Cemetery in Sigourney. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 7, 2005, at the Reynolds-Powell Funeral Chapel in Sigourney, where the rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. A memorial fund has been established for Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Keswick, St. Mary Catholic Church in Sigourney, Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Port Isabel, Texas or the Sigourney Public Library Building Fund. Reynolds-Powell Funeral Chapel and Cremation Service in Sigourney is handling the arrangements.
