Williamsburg-Rita Mae Walter was born February 1, 1934 in Millersburg, Iowa, the daughter of Herman and Dorothy (Klein) Knipfer. She graduated from Marengo High School in 1952. Rita was united in marriage to Orville Walter on June 25, 1955 at Immanuel Lutheran Church near Williamsburg. Rita worked a number of years at the Amana Bakery. She enjoyed working outside and spending time with her family.
She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and the VFW Auxiliary Post #8797. Rita passed away Sunday, March 12, 2017 at the age of 83 years.
She is survived by three daughters: Kim (Terry) Gorsh of Boone, Carma Morrison of Williamsburg and Kelly (Howard) Buck of Pleasant Hill; 7 grandchildren: Miranda and Meridith Hochstetler of Tiffin, Jessica Stimmel of Cedar Rapids, Emmy McCallister of Solon, Jacob Escher of Boone, Heath Walter of Williamsburg and Paige Morrison of Williamsburg; 7 great grandchildren: Caden & Bella Stimmel, Austin & Allison Quaintance, Brenten Walter, Zoey Newcomb and Meta Evans and a brother: Gerald (Sala) Knipfer. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband in 2015, son Rodney, grandson Chad Evans, 2 brothers: Don Knipfer and Orlin Knipfer and a sister Judy Stewart.
Celebration of Life Service will be 10:30 am Thursday, March 16, 2017 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church near Williamsburg. Burial will be in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg. Memorials are for HCI Hospice Care Services in Des Moines.
