Rita A. Halvorson

Rita A. Halvorson, age 81, of Conroy, passed away Saturday, January 11, 2025, at Colonial Manor of Amana. Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, January 16, 2025, at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. Funeral service: 10:00 a.m., Friday, January 17, 2025, at First Lutheran Church, Conroy, with Rev. Zachary Bey officiating. Burial will be at First Lutheran Cemetery, Conroy. Memorials may be directed to Essence of Life Hospice or First Lutheran Church, Conroy.

Rita is survived by her children, Dodie (Joe) Meyers of Conroy, Bonnie (Steve) Lohrer of Conroy, and Nels (Lori) Halvorson of Grinnell; 12 grandchildren, Amelia, Josie, Rachel, Sam, Macy, Alex, Elijah, Michael, Madi, Brittany, Erin and Easton; and 9 great-grandchildren, Rylan, Kasyn, Kohen, Vienna, Vinny, Raelynn, Oakley, Lainney and Lennon.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Marvin in 2015, and her brother Marlyn Doty.

Rita Arlene Doty was born July 26, 1943, in Ladora, the daughter of Frank and Neola Ranfeld Doty. She graduated from HLV High School in 1961, then she worked at Amana Refrigeration. Rita was united in marriage to Marvin Wayne Halvorson June 17, 1962, at the Ladora Methodist Church. Rita farmed with her husband and family, and worked at Kinze Manufacturing making safety product manuals, retiring from there after 25 years. She was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Conroy, attending Bible study every Wednesday morning. Rita loved working out in her yard and in her flower beds. She looked forward to weekly jam sessions at different friends places, and enjoyed watching the game show network. Rita cherished her vacations with Marvin and her family, especially the annual trips to Las Vegas. She loved her family deeply, always saying family was the most important. Rita’s cookie jar was never empty and she always had ice cream available.

The family would like to thank Colonial Manor, their staff and Essence of Life Hospice for the exceptional care that was given to Rita during her stay there.
