Rick Hopkins, 58, formerly of Columbus Junction, IA, passed away on Sunday, November 03, 2013, at Arbor Court following a lengthy illness. Visitation will begin after 12 noon on Wednesday, November 6, 2013, at the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel where the family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. that evening. A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, November 7th at 10 a.m. with Jim Luder, Chaplain at Hospice of Central Iowa, officiating. Memorials may be directed to the family. On-line condolences may be directed to www.olsonpowell.com. Born in Denison, IA, on October 4, 1955, Rick Eugene was the son of Wayne and Eldonna Mae (Davis) Hopkins. He obtained his General Educational Degree. On July 31, 1982, he married Larinda Lee Collins in Milford, IA. After receiving his GED, Rick worked for a few years as a guidance counselor at Western Iowa Tech Community College in Sioux City, IA. He later traveled extensively throughout the United States and worked as a laborer. He worked on oil rigs, blasted tunnels for gold mining, farmed, and sold feed and fertilizer. His last employment was as a subcontractor doing heating and cooling ductwork. Rick enjoyed fishing and was an avid Wii fan. He especially enjoyed riding his motorcycle. He was a member of ABATE of Iowa. Survivors include his wife, Larinda, of Columbus Junction, IA; his mother, Eldonna Feldhacker of Onawa, IA; a daughter, Brandy Hopkins of Columbus Junction, IA; two sons, Jason and Jacob Hopkins of Sioux City, IA; three sisters, Darcey Hummell of Mt. Pleasant, IA, Jolene Feldhacker and Linda Walker both of Onawa, IA; a brother, Steven Hopkins of Lake Park, IA; and three grandchildren, Alexander, Maya and Riley. Preceding him in death are his father, Wayne; step-father, Joseph Feldhacker; and a sister, Kolene, in infancy.
