Rick Barton

Richard "Rick" Barton, 53, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, died at his home on Monday, October 19, 2015, surrounded by family and friends. A visitation will be held from 12 noon-8p.m. on Thursday, October 22, 2015 at the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel where the family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. that evening. A funeral service will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, October 23rd at the First United Methodist Church with Pastor Deborah Stowers officiating. Interment will be in Forest Home Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Holden Cancer Center, Henry County 4-H Sharp Shooters, or Boy Scout Troop 28. On-line condolences may be directed to www.olsonpowell.com. Born June 12, 1962 in Mt. Pleasant, IA, Richard Allen was the son of Wesley and Gerry (Auge) Barton. He grew up in the Mt. Pleasant area and graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1981. He married Kelly Gray in 1988, and they have 3 children, Weston, Whitney, and Willow. Rick's children were the light of his life and he spent as much time as possible with his children helping them pursue their interests. Rick worked in construction all his life with big equipment operation being his love. He worked for Wesley Barton Construction before starting his own contracting company, Rick Barton and Son Construction. Rick was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting. Fishing and deer hunting were his joy. He introduced many family members to his love of the outdoors and mentored several whom embraced the sport. He was a devout Dallas Cowboys fan and took pleasure in watching "America's Team" play football, as well as, NASCAR racing. Rick is survived by his immediate family, Weston, Whitney and Willow Barton all of Mt. Pleasant. Also surviving are his parents, Wesley and Gerry Barton of Mt. Pleasant; six siblings, Jim (Diane) Barton, Mike (Lyndel) Barton all of Mt. Pleasant, Kathy (Mike) McAlister of Flemington, NJ, Phil (Karen) Barton of Naperville, IL, Pete Barton, and Missy (Dr. Jeff) Sitar all of Mt. Pleasant; nieces and nephews, Blaire, Stacie, Morgan, Reece, Alek, Gabe, Liz, Cole, Mac, Amanda, Lissa, Brooke, Matthew, Ryan, Sam, Max, Ashley, Josh, Audrianna, Marley, Charlie, Michael, Marie, and JC; and many others who treasured his friendship. Preceding Rick in death are his grandparents, JF and Marie Barton, and Clarence and Helen Auge; and his nephew, Cale Barton. The family would like to thank all of Rick's doctors and caregivers over the past few years. The journey was difficult, however, it was made with much compassion and understanding. We also thank Great River Hospice for arranging for a very meaningful experience at the end of Rick's life. Having Rick at home was a blessing for everyone involved.
