Visitation will begin at 12 noon on Tuesday, September 16, 2014, at Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel, in Mt. Pleasant, IA, where the family will greet friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. that evening. Funeral services will be held at Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, September 17, 2014, at 10:30 a.m., with Pastor David Forrester of Trenton Missionary Church officiating. Burial will be at the Bethel Mennonite Cemetery north of Wayland. A memorial has been established to the Fellowship Cup. Richard Lee was born on September 19, 1940, to Mahlon and Frances (Wenger) Wyse at the family farm near Olds, IA. He attended the rural Prospect School, Olds Consolidated Schools and Iowa Mennonite School near Kalona, IA. When school became too difficult for Richard, he worked for area farmers in northern Henry County and eventually worked with his dad at lumber yards in Wayland and Olds. When he moved with his family to Mt. Pleasant in 1963, Richard began his 36 year career working at UBC (United Building Center). He delivered lumber initially, but soon became well-known as a yard worker filling orders for his many loyal customers. A health crisis in 1999, forced Richard to retire early and to give up independent living. Since that time he received varying levels of care at the Henry County Home, Van Vohries Haus, Arbor Court and Pleasant Manor Care Center. Richard treasured his job, his family, his friends, his sports, and his faith. Those who knew Richard knew that he loved and lived generously. Without using a lot of words, Richard taught those around him that life is not dealt out perfectly, but we make the best of what we have. Richard is survived by his brothers and sisters; Gene (Alice) Wyse of Wayland, IA, Ronald J. (Barbara) Wyse of Mt. Pleasant, IA, Sharon (Duane) Miller of Harrisonburg, VA, and Rebecca Wyse. He is also survived by nine nieces and nephews, many cousins and one uncle, Clarence (Dorothy) Wenger of Wayland, IA. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Mahlon and Frances Wyse and a nephew, Curtis Wyse.
