Richard Triska, 78, of Salem, IA, passed away Saturday, January 15, 2011 at his home. Visitation will begin after 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 17th, at the Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Tuesday evening. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, at 10:30 a.m. at the Salem Congregational Church with Pastor Aaron Helterbran officiating. Burial will be in the Salem East Cemetery. Memorials have been established to Hospice of Central Iowa and the Salem Congregational Church. Born March 14, 1932 in Iowa City, Richard was the son of George and Clara (McDowell) Triska. He grew up on his family farm and attended Salem schools graduating from Salem High School. On September 16, 1950, he married Margaret Elmore in Salem. Richard began his work at Bentler Oil and then worked 16 years at Goodyear Rubber Plant in Mt. Pleasant in shipping and receiving from where he retired. He was a lifelong resident of Salem. Prior to his illness, he loved to spend time fishing, trapping and hunting. He was a member of the Salem Congregational Church. Along with his wife, Margaret, survivors include three daughters, Bonnie (Larry) Pickard of Kalona, IA, Susan (Bill) DeWolf and Teresa (Chuck) Kramer all of Salem; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; and an infant son, James Triska.
