Richard Soukup

November 14, 1938 — June 29, 2018

Richard Soukup was born November 14, 1938 in Washington, Iowa, the son of Melvin and Betty (Owen) Soukup. He graduated from Ainsworth High School in 1957. On December 13, 1972 Richard was united in marriage to Iris Fletcher at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. They lived in the Ainsworth community before moving to Kalona in 1993. He farmed and worked at the Kalona Sales Barn for many years. He was a member of the Salem Church of God. He was a 4H Leader and enjoyed attending his children's and grandchildren's activities. Richard died on Friday, June 29, 2018 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City at the age of 79 years.
Richard is survived by 3 sons; Kyle (Misty) Soukup of Lone Tree, Kirk (Karen) Soukup of Middletown, Brad (Tina) Soukup of Muscatine; 9 grandchildren; Michael Soukup, Steven Soukup, Sarah (Joe) Hitzeroth, Emma Soukup, Kolton Soukup, Austin Soukup, Dakota (Kelsey Kendra) Soukup, Austin Clark and Katerina Clark; and 3 great grandchildren; Elijah and Theodore Hitzeroth and Loren Clark. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Iris, a daughter-in-law Laura, and a brother Jim.


Visitation will be held from 3-6 P.M. on Friday, July 6, 2018 at the Yoder-Powell Funeral Home in Kalona. A private graveside service will be held in the Salem Cemetery in rural Ainsworth. A general memorial fund has been established.
