CEDAR RAPIDS-Richard Dennis Snakenberg, age 57, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Harper, died Saturday, December 8, 2012, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House in Hiawatha. Richard was born December 9, 1954 in Sigourney to John W. and Marcella (Herman) Snakenberg and graduated from Keota High School in 1973. He attended St. Ambrose College in Davanport, majoring in music, then lived in and attended college in St. Louis, Missouri until 1979. Richard then moved back to Harper to help his brother farm the family farm for three years. He worked at McKessen Drug in Cedar Rapids for 10 years and then worked at Square D Company until it closed. Survivors include his mother: Marcella Snakenberg of Harper; three siblings: Donna (Stan) Chambers of Keota, Tony (Kim) Snakenberg of Sigourney and Karen (Tony) Holland of Carlyle, Illinois; nieces and nephews: Michael (Jaci) Chambers of Van Horne, Lori (James) Myers of Sorrento, Florida, Joni Snakenberg of South English, Christopher (Cheryl) Holland of Carlyle, Illinois and Stephanie Holland and fiancé Seth Luebbers of Carlyle, Illinois; four great nieces and nephews: Tyler and Courtney Chambers of Van Horne and Nola and Nile Myers of Sorrento, Florida. He was preceded in death by his father: John W. Snakenberg and many aunts and uncles. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, December 11, 2012, at Holy Trinity Parish - St. Mary Catholic Church in Keota, with Rev. Charles Fladung officiating. Burial will be at Holy Trinity Cemeteries - St. Elizabeth Cemetery in Harper. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until service time on Tuesday at the church. A general fund has been established.
