Richard Moyle

April 10, 1919 — January 4, 2011

Richard Moyle, 91, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, passed away Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at Arbor Court, with his family at his side. Visitation will begin after 12:00 noon on Friday, January 7, 2011, at the Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. that evening. A celebration of his life will be held Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at the Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel with the Rev. David Plooster officiating. Burial will be in the Forest Home Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to Iowa Hospice and the Iowa Alzheimer's Association. He was born April 10, 1919, on a farm near Salem, IA to Frank and Nina (Mogel) Moyle. He attended county school and worked on various farms in the Hillsboro and Mt. Pleasant area. Richard was a hard worker in anything he did which included working at the local gas station and then traveling to Baraboo, WI to work in the Ammunition Plant during WWII. He married Elloise Barton of Mt. Pleasant, on September 6, 1942 and moved to Seattle, WA to work as a ship fitter on the docks. They returned to Mt. Pleasant in 1943 and started their family while Richard worked on the Guy Matthews' farm. He found his calling in 1956 when he began his career as an over-the-road semi-truck driver for Gateway Transportation for the next 25 years. This moved him and his family to LaCrosse, WI where they lived for the next 35 years. After taking early retirement from truck driving, he worked as a security guard for St. Francis Hospital in LaCrosse for the next 10 years. In 1990 the couple moved back "home" to Mt. Pleasant to retire. Richard loved his family and working with his hands. He could fix or make just about anything including making miniature stables for the ceramic nativity sets made by his wife and daughter, Linda in their shop. He was loved by all the "Leonard Street" kids with all his creativity in making their neighborhood parades a success, and piling them in the back of the pickup to go for ice cream. He and his daughter, Lori, shared a love of riding motorcycles and took some memorable trips together. In retirement he enjoyed sitting in the shade watching the jet streams across the sky or sitting in his chair holding his cat, Muff or little dog, Jake. He especially enjoyed sitting at the kitchen table with Elloise sipping coffee and having a cookie. Richard leaves his beloved wife Elloise of 68 years, his daughter, Linda, both of Mt. Pleasant, his daughter, Lori (John) Schlatter of Hopkins, MN and his grandson and buddy, Nathan, also of Hopkins, MN; his sister, Meta Brown of Mt. Pleasant; his dear friend and brother-in-law, Wes (Gerry) Barton of Mt. Pleasant; and many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Richard Dale; and a brother, Keith. He will be greatly missed by everyone who was ever privileged to know him.
