Richard Lee Woline, 96, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, passed away Sunday, February 16, 2020 at Sunrise Terrace Care Center in Winfield, IA.
Visitation will be Thursday, February 20, 2020 at Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel from 12:00 7:00 p.m. with family present from 5:00 7:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, February 21, 2020, at Swedesburg Evangelical Lutheran Church with Pastor Mark Youngquist officiating. Buiral will be in the Swedesburg Cemetery with military rites by the Henry County Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Habitat for Humanity or the Swedesburg Evangelical Lutheran Church. On-line condolences should be directed to www.olsonpowell.com.
Born November 26, 1923, in Mt Pleasant, IA, Richard Lee was the son of Albert and Ella (Anderson) Woline. After graduating from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1940, Richard served in the U.S. Army in Italy during WWII. After his military service, Richard returned to Mt. Pleasant where he met Elnora Belle Myers and they were married on May 27, 1949. Together they began a life-long career of farming in Jefferson, Lee, and Henry Counties.
Richard served on many boards and committees including school, church, Farm Bureau, Production Credit Association, Food Resource Bank, and Henry County Soil Conservation Service. In 1979, Richard was named an Iowa Master Pork Producer. He was a school board member and helped establish Central Lee School. A member of the Swedesburg Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Olds American Legion, Richard was also a leader for Habitat for Humanity projects. He was a big believer of being a helpful neighbor. Grandchildren and family were very important to Richard. He had a passion for gardening and his prized blueberry patch.
Survivors include four sons; Robert (Trudy) Woline of Urbandale, IA, Dennis (Cindi) Woline of Osceola, IA, Allan (Jodi) Woline of Mt. Pleasant, IA, and Wayne (Leah) Woline of Mt. Pleasant, IA; a foreign exchange son from Sweden, Sven-Olle Larson; 15 grandchildren; and 26 great grandchildren.
Along with his parents and wife of 65 years, Richard was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold Woline and John Woline; three sisters, June Woline, Jean Woline, and Ruby (Charles) King; a daughter-in-law, Theresa Woline; and a grandson Jerod Woline.
The Woline family extends a special thanks to all the staff at Sunrise Terrace Care Center and EveryStep Hospice. They both showed genuine, loving care to Richard every day. Thank you, Pastor Mark Youngquist, for your many visits.
