Due to the Inclement weather, the Richard Kruse family will greet friends and family on Thursday evening, January 11, 2024 from 4 to 7 P.M. at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo.
Richard A. Kruse, age 79, of Williamsburg, passed away Thursday, January 4, 2024 at Compass Memorial Healthcare, Marengo. Funeral service: 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo, with Rev. Daniel Jessop officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, January 9, 2024, at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Williamsburg, with military honors conducted by the Williamsburg American Legion Post #228 and the U.S. Army Honor Guard. A memorial fund has been established.
Richard is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mary; four children, Richard Jr., James (Nicole) Kruse, Scott (Kathy) Kruse and Jennifer Martinson; 11 grandchildren, Bethany George, Ben Kruse, Zack Kruse, Bryce Williams, Brietta Williams, Brody Williams, Shelby Kempf, Clayton Kempf, Owen Kempf, Lana Coon and Bailey Kruse; two great-grandchildren, Brodie Bearbower and Lane Kruse; five siblings, Robert “Bob” Kruse, Harold Kruse, David (Betty) Kruse, Margaret Hanke and Mary (Dave) Dixon. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Marilyn Coon, a granddaughter Hailey Kruse, a son-in-law MJ Martinson, a daughter-in-law Sheila Kruse, and four siblings, Betty Cummings, William Kruse, Paul Jr. Kruse and Pauline Hadenfeldt.
Richard Allen Kruse was born November 23, 1944, in Davenport. He is the son of the late Paul and Elizabeth (Dykstra) Kruse, Sr. In Richard’s younger years, he was employed by J & S Farm Supply, farmed for an area farmer and also with his family on the family farm. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in September of 1967. Richard was united in marriage to Mary Weldon on September 16, 1968, in Iowa City. After his discharge from the Army, Richard worked at Amana Refrigeration operating presses for 34 years until retiring in 2010. He was a member of the Williamsburg American Legion Post #228. Richard enjoyed fishing, doing puzzles, crosswords and scraping metal. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and enjoying all of his grandchildren.
