WELLMAN - Richard "Dick" Durst was born February 23, 1945 in Wellman, Iowa the son of John and Bertha (Lewis) Durst Sr. He graduated form Keota High School, Universal Trade School in Omaha, and the Iowa Military Academy. Richard was united in marriage to Bonnie Hutton in Sigourney on September 3, 1966. He served in the National Guard for 25 years and the Reserves for 4 years, before retiring from the Army on February 23, 2005. Richard worked for Buckwalter Motors for 25 years and was the Transportation Director for Mid-Prairie Community School District for 22 years, retiring in 2010. He was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church. He served on the Wellman Golf Course Board and was a Trustee for 76 Township. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, wood working and golfing. Richard died on Saturday, July 27, 2013 at his home in rural Wellman at the age of 68 years. Richard is survived by his wife Bonnie of Wellman; a son Brian Durst (Thaila) of West Point; a daughter Heather Fox of Wellman; three grandchildren Alivia Fox, Spencer Fox, Joshua Fox all of Wellman; his mother-in-law Ruth Hutton of Sigourney; three brothers John Durst Jr. (Syd) of Wellman, Mike Durst of Keota, Duane Durst (Peg) of Fairfield; two sisters Nancy Fisher of North English, Jo Criss of Coralville; and a sister-in-law Carolyn Dyson (Dean) of Sigourney. He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter Iris Grace Durst; father-in-law Aldus Hutton; a brother-in-law Robert W. Hutton; a niece Cindy Peiffer, and a nephew Timothy Wayne Hutton. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, July 30, 2013 at the Powell Funeral Home in Wellman. Pastor Moody Colorado and Pastor Rich Pippert will officiate. Burial will be in the Wellman Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2-8 PM on Monday at the Powell Funeral Home in Wellman where the family will greet friends from 5-8 PM. A memorial fund has been established for Washington County Hospice.
