Richard A. Huber, age 90, of Wellman, died on Monday, March 19, 2012, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 22, 2012 at the Asbury United Methodist Church in Wellman. Rev. Rich Pippert will oficiate. Visitation will be from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Wednesday at the Powell Funeral Home in Wellman. Burial will be in the Wellman Cemetery. A general memorial fund has been established. Richard Allison Huber was born on August 5, 1921, near Wellman, Iowa, a son of Ira Everette and Mabel Freel Huber. He grew up on a farm south of Wellman and graduated from Wellman High School with Normal Training. Richard taught two years at a country school. He married Mildred Lucille Taylor in Fort Madison, Iowa, on December 27, 1941. He farmed all of his life in the Wellman community. During World War II he served in the US Army. While in France he worked with the French Underground and was awarded the French Legion of Honor Medal and two bronze stars. Richard was an active and faithful member of the Asbury United Methodist Church. He had served on the Mid-Prairie School Board and the Wellman Telephone Board. He is survived by four children: Carol (Don) Flater of Montezuma, IA; Larry (Tanna) Huber of Keota, IA; Robert (Kathy) Huber of North English, IA; Loren (Linda) Huber of Wellman, IA; seven grandchildren: Patrick (Heather) Flater, Tim (Judy) Flater, Sara (Jason) McCollum, Jeff (Terra) Huber, Chris (Shawna) Huber, Erin (Caleb) Koehn, and Terri (Mike) Adam; eleven great grandchildren and two on the way; and a sister Helen (Eldon) Shetler of Clatskanie, Oregon. Richard was preceded in death by his parents and wife Mildred on July 12, 1997.
