Richard A. "Dick" Nebelle, 81, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, formerly of Ottumwa, IA, died Sunday, August 23, 2009, at his home. A memorial mass will be held on Thursday, August 27, 2009, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, 607 S. Jackson Street, Mt. Pleasant, with the Rev. Joseph Phung officiating. There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to St. Alphonsus Catholic Church and Hospice of Central Iowa. Born May 30, 1928, in Chicago, IL, Richard Aquinas was the son of Ollie and Celia (Groskie) Nebelle. In June of 1945, Dick enlisted in the United States Navy in Chicago. After serving four years, during World War II, he was discharged on June 1, 1949, at NAS Quonset Point, RI. On June 22, 1949, he married Helen Huntley at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Ottumwa, IA. She survives. Throughout his life, Dick lived in Chicago, IL, Ottumwa, IA, and Springfield, IL. For 28 years, he was a sales representative for Proctor and Gamble selling Folgers Coffee. He retired in 1984. Dick has been a resident of Mt. Pleasant for the past four years. Always an active parishioner, while in Mt. Pleasant, Dick was a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church and a Fourth Degree Knight in the Knight's of Columbus. He was a master craftsman and could build or remodel anything. He enjoyed boating, was an avid water skier, and taught safe boating classes with the Power Squadron in Springfield, IL. Along with his wife Helen, Dick is survived by a son, John R. Nebelle and his fiancee, Bonnie McKeown of Montgomery, IL; a daughter, Julie A. Nebelle of Springfield, IL; and a granddaughter, Alexandra C. Nebelle of Montgomery, IL. Mr. Nebelle was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and a sister, Cecelia Brombacher.
