KEOTA-Raymond Nicholas "Red" Greiner, age 87, of Keota, died Saturday, April 16, 2005, at the Maplewood Manor in Keota following a long illness. Red was born November 13, 1917, at Talleyrand, Iowa, to Peter P. and Mary Margaret (Bohrofen) Greiner. He graduated from Keota High School in 1936 and attended St. Ambrose College in Davenport, Iowa. On June 19, 1941, he married Mary Margaret Masterson at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Parnell. They lived on the same farm two miles south of Keota on Highway 92 for 56 years , where Red raised hogs and also fed lambs and cattle and was a Pioneer Seed sales rep, before moving into Keota. Red was a member of Holy Trinity Parish-St. Mary Catholic Church and the Keota Lions Club and was a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus. He was a former member of the Keota Community School Board and the St. Mary Cemetery Board for more than 20 years and had been a volunteer for many causes. Red enjoyed visiting, feeding lambs, playing cards and traveling. The number thirteen was significant to him, as he was the thirteenth child, born on the thirteenth, had thirteen grandchildren and his sheep buyer's number was thirteen. Survivors include his wife of 64 years: Mary of Keota; four sons: Nick and wife Georgie of Oxford, Terry and wife Sandy of Keota, Claude and wife Mary Frances of Kalona and Kevin and wife Kathy of Keota; 13 grandchildren; 15 great grandchilden and one sister: Lavera Miller of Wellman. He was preceded in death by his parents; five sisters: Theresa Adam, Christina Adam, Rose Jaeger, Sister Mary Josephine and Luella Peiffer and six brothers: Matts, Robert, Peter, Walter, Frank and Leo. Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 20, 2005, at the Holy Trinity Parish-St. Mary Catholic Church in Keota with Rev. Marty Goetz officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary Cemetery in Keota. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 19, 2005, at the Powell Funeral Home in Keota, where there will be a combined prayer service and rosary at 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established. Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service is handling the arrangements.
