Williamsburg- Raymond Chris Wichmann, was born May 29, 1927 near Homestead, Iowa, the son of Adolph & Anna (Koester) Wichmann Sr. He attended St. John's Lutheran School, Homestead. He served in the US Navy during WWII. On June 6, 1948 Raymond was united in marriage to Eleanor May Happel at St. Steven's Lutheran Church, in Atkins, Iowa. He was a life long farmer and member of the Williamsburg Community. Raymond was a member of St. Timothy Evangelical Lutheran Church, Williamsburg. He enjoyed farming and raising birds. Raymond died on Monday, February 2, 2015 at the English Valley Care Center, North English, at the age of 87 years.
He is survived by his wife Eleanor of North English; three children: Richard (Karen) Wichmann of Williamsburg, Diane (Maynard) Holub of Cedar Rapids and Kenneth (Gloria) Wichmann of Williamsburg; five grandchildren: Aaron (Tonya) Sandersfeld, Lindsay (Dustin) Stutzman; Clint Wichmann, Emily (Marcus) Shemwell and Ashley Holub; five great-grandchildren: Zachary & Sydney Stutzman, Regan & Jaret Sandersfeld and Samuel Shemwell; two sisters: Dorothy (Loren) Folkmann of Williamsburg and Ethel Wichmann of Osage; a brother Earl (Marilyn) Wichmann of Homestead; two sisters-in-law: Eleanor Wichmann of Story City and Regina Wichmann of Homestead; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded by his parents; two brothers Clarence and Adolph Jr; two sisters Fern Oehl and Roma Wichmann in infancy; and a brother-in-law Carl Oehl.
Celebration of Life Service will be 10:00 AM on Friday, February 6, 2015 at St. Timothy Evangelical Lutheran Church, Williamsburg. Rev. Karl Heck will officiate. Burial will be in the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday, from 4-7 PM at the Powell Funeral Home, Williamsburg. A general memorial fund has been established.
