KEOTA-Raymond H. Bombei, age 86, of Keota, died Thursday, February 24, 2005, at the Mapelewood Manor in Keota following a long illness. Raymond was born August 24, 1918, in Keokuk County, to Henry and Teresa (Ott) Bombei and received his education at Clear Creek and Tallyrand schools. On November 12, 1945 he married Mildred Hauschild at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in rural Harper. A life-long resident of the Keota Community, Raymond worked as a carpenter for Bob Yoder, retiring in 1984. He was a member of Holy Trinity Parish-Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in rural Harper and enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, anything outdoors, playing cards, flying and spending time with his family. Survivors include his wife: Mildred of Keota; one brother: Herbert Bombei and wife Loretta of Keota; three sisters: Marie Redlinger of Keota, Philomena Sheetz of Keota and Mary Lou Walker of Washington and two sisters-in-law: Virginia Bombei of Sigourney and Alfretta Hauschild of What Cheer. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Howard, Richard and Robert; three brothers-in-law: Daryl Redlinger, Hubert Sheetz and Jim Walker. A memorial mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, February 28, 2005, at the Holy Trinity Parish-Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in rural Harper with Rev. Marty Goetz officiating. Burial will be at Ss. Peter and Paul Cemetery in rural Harper. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 27, 2005, at the Powell Funeral Home in Keota, where there will be a rosary at 6:00 p.m. A memorial fund has been established for Maplewood Manor, Ss. Peter and Paul Church or Hospice of Washington County. Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Keota is handling the arrangements.
