Randy Murty, age 62, of Malcom, passed away, Tuesday, January 12, 2021 at the Grinnell Regional Medical Center. A private family funeral will be held. A public visitation will be Friday, January 15, 2021 from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., at the Michael J. Manatt Center, Brooklyn, Iowa. The family welcomes those in attendance to wear your favorite racing or farm attire. Burial will be in the Rector Cemetery, Chelsea, Iowa. A memorial fund has been established. Masks and social distance are required.
Randy is survived by his wife Stacey; four children Heidi (Shawn) Minnaert, of Brooklyn, Alyssa (Luke) Beaderstadt, of Chelsea, Ryan (Ashley) Kasal, of Victor, and Crystal (Daren) Grimm, of Ladora; seven grandchildren, MaKya, Cade, Madison, Mira, Kinslee, Linley and Walker; his mother Barb, of Tama; three sisters, Rene (Chuck) Thompson, of Tama, Janet (Alan) Manatt, of Tama, and Dino Murty, of Golden, MO; two brothers, Jerry (Debbi) Murty of Tama and David Murty of Chelsea; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, a sister Darla and a niece Shelly.
Randy was born July 25, 1958, in Marshalltown, the son of Dennis and Barb (DeFrance) Murty. He grew up in Poweshiek County and attended the BGM Schools. Randy was united in marriage to his best friend Stacey Bethards on May 18, 1990. The couple made their home in Malcom on the family farm they owned and operated. Randy enjoyed attending races and cheering on the Flying 99’s. He liked to go camping, riding the ranger and racing go carts with the grandkids. Family time was very important to Randy. He was the family “fix it man”. Randy had a heart of gold and an incredible sense of humor. He will be dearly missed by many.
