Ramona B. Hoppe, age 92, of Homestead, passed away Thursday, November 10, 2022, at her home. Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, November 15, 2022, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Marengo, with Rev. Andrew Gray officiating. Visitation will be 9:30 a.m., until service time at 10:30 a.m., at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Marengo. Interment will be in the Homestead Cemetery, Homestead. Memorials may be contributed to St. John’s Lutheran Church. Ramona and her family are in the care of Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo.
Ramona is survived by her sister Anita McDonald; nieces, Dolores Roemig, Phyllis Wedig, Monique McDonald, Heather Chapman and Michele Hoppe Long; nephews Randy Hess, Larry Burgy, David Burgy, Jeff Burgy, Anthony McDonald, David Guerhn, Christopher Hoppe and Robert Hoppe. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Glenn on February 3, 1983, three sisters, Marie Burgy, Norma Hess and Dorothy Wedig and two nieces, Stephanie Gossage and Ginger Hoppe Myer.
Ramona Marz was born January 8, 1930, in her home in Homestead, where she lived her entire life. She is the daughter of the late Fritz L. and Ella W. (Miller) Marz. She graduated from Amana High School in 1949 and continued her education at the Davenport Business College. Ramona was united in marriage to Glenn Hoppe on August 25, 1951 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Marengo. Ramona worked at Amana Refrigeration as a receptionist and switchboard operator. Later she worked at several local wineries. Ramona was a lifelong member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Marengo. She taught Sunday School for many years, was a member of the Ladies Aid as well as the quilting group. Ramona was also a member of the Amana Society, the Homestead Welfare Group and was a contributing artist of the Amana Arts Guild Gallery. She enjoyed stitching and quilting, was an avid gardener and avid Iowa Hawkeye football and basketball fan. Ramona was a very giving, energetic person and a delight to be around. Her gift wrapping skills were a “work of art”. She never knew a stranger . Ramona's firm faith in the Lord, courage and steadfast love was an example and gift to us all. She will be missed by many.
