Ralph Henry Johnson

Ralph H. Johnson, 90, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, passed away Friday, August 28, 2015, at Arbor Court. A visitation will be held from noon-7 p.m. on Thursday, September 3, 2015, at the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel where the family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. that evening. A funeral service will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 4th at the Memorial Chapel with Pastor Jeff McPheron officiating. Interment will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery with full Military Rites. A memorial has been established to the Veterans Honor Flight. Born December 17, 1924 in Chicago, IL, Ralph Henry was the son of George and Nellie "Marie" (Schenk) Johnson. He graduated from Olds High School in 1943. After graduation he served his country as a United States Navy CB during WWII. He was honorably discharged in 1946 as a 2nd Class Petty Officer. He married Lois Scarff. They later divorced. Ralph owned and operated Johnson Construction where he worked as a general contractor and built many homes in the Mt. Pleasant area. He was especially gifted as a craftsman building cabinets and special projects. A talented man, Ralph loved collecting antique tools, woodworking, gardening and square dancing. He also collected classic cars, belonged to the 20th Century Car Club, and loved riding Harley Davidson motorcycles. An avid Iowa Hawkeyes fan, he enjoyed following and attending the games. In 2014, he was able to participate in the Veterans Honor Flight and was accompanied by his son, Dennis. Ralph was a lifetime member of the Mt. Pleasant Moose Lodge #1003. Survivors include four children, Dennis (Lynn) Johnson of Mt. Pleasant, IA, Rick Johnson of Kansas City, MO, Cindy Walker of Haslet, TX and Shan (Amy Lang) Johnson of Kansas City, MO; five grandchildren, Jamie, Nathaniel, Katrina, Alisha and Danielle; two great grandchildren, Taylor and Keegan Johnson; a longtime companion, Betty Stout of Mt. Pleasant, IA; and a sister, Jean Sammons, of Mt. Pleasant, IA. He is preceded in death by his parents; and one grandson, William. Cemetery Details Pleasant Hill Cemetery 2500 grid Logan Avenue Mt.
