Pridipongse Vithespongse, M.D.

SIGOURNEY-Pridipongse Vithespongse, M.D., age 87, of Sigourney, died Sunday, March 16, 2025, at the Keokuk County Health Center in Sigourney

Dr. V was born June 3, 1937, in Bangkok, Thailand, the youngest child of Jinda Vithespongse and Tab (Phothisuvan) Vithespongse. The youngest of six children, he grew up in Bangkok and graduated with honors from Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok with his Medical Degree. Dr. V then moved to the United States where he served his internship, residencies and fellowships on the east coast and in the midwest. In his first year of residency at St. Joseph's Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland, he met and married Saichol Vorshindhu in Washington, D.C. in October of 1967. After serving as Chief Resident of Surgery at Jewish Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio, and a fellowship in Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery at the University of Maryland Hospital in Baltimore, MD, he practiced as a licensed, board-certified surgeon. He then was a surgeon in the United States Navy, stationed in Florida for one enlistment, attaining the rank of Lieutenant Commander. He and his family moved to Sigourney in 1981, where he owned his own medical practice, the Hedrick Medical Clinic. Dr. V enjoyed playing rugby in his younger years, playing tennis, jogging and watching all sports.

Survivors include his wife: Saichol of Sigourney; daughter: Joy Vithespongse Trejo of Washington, D.C. and granddaughter: Sophia Trejo of Washington, D.C as well as his nephews, nieces and niece-in-law in the United States and Thailand. He was preceded in death by his parents; son: John Vithespongse; son-in-law: Marcello Trejo; three sisters and two brothers.

Celebration of Life Gathering will be held from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at Powell Funeral Home in Sigourney.
