Phyllis Swink

Phyllis J. Swink, 87, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, died Saturday, August 20, 2016, at Great River Hospice House in West Burlington, IA.Visitation will begin after 12 noon on Wednesday, August 24, 2016, at Olson~Powell Memorial Chapel where the family will greet friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. that evening. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., on Thursday, August 25, 2016, at Olson~Powell Memorial Chapel, with Pastor Mike Hess officiating. Burial will be in Hillsboro Cemetery. Born January 3, 1929, in Fairfield, IA, Phyllis Joan was the daughter of Samuel S. and Mary E. Elliott Perry. As a teenager, she worked at F. W. Woolworth during her high school years. She graduated from Fairfield High School in 1947. Phyllis began working in the office of Louden's Manufacturing and later was employed by Martin's Drugstore in Fairfield. On April 1, 1950, she married Frank Swink. The Swinks moved to Muscatine in 1955. The couple then moved to Mt. Pleasant in 1962, when Frank went to work at Bluebird Midwest at the beginning of their operations. Phyllis worked for several years as a sales clerk for Panther Drug. She then worked for a period of time at Fankhauser's Dairy and later returned to work at Panther Drug. Phyllis attended Calvary Baptist Church. Together, with her husband, she collected Precious Moments. Phyllis was a member of the Mt. Pleasant V.F.W. Auxiliary. She also enjoyed bowling, reading, and spending time with her family. Phyllis is survived by two daughters, Paula (Dave) Potter of Olathe, KS, and Ann (Mike) Noel of Mt. Pleasant, IA; ten grandchildren, Tim (Micki) Beauchamp, Kara Pernick, Joel (Kelley) Switzer, Tyler Switzer, Jeff (Sue) Noel, Michael (Melanie) Noel, Ryan (Amy) Noel, Tag (Melissa) Noel, Andrea (Luke) Carpenter, and Sam Potter; thirteen great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; and adoring nieces and nephews. Along with her loving husband, Frank, Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, six brothers, and five sisters.
