SIGOURNEY-Phyllis Meier Strong, age 87, of Sigourney, died Monday, December 26, 2005, at her home in rural Sigourney, following a sudden illness. Phyllis was born November 9, 1918, in rural Hedrick, Iowa, to Floyd and Verla (Helm) Meier. She graduated from Fremont High School and William Penn College. On August 8, 1943, she married Elver F. Strong in Hedrick. The couple lived and farmed in the Malcom, Traer and Sigourney areas and Phyllis taught in Malcom, Traer, Delta and Keota. She enjoyed teaching, reading and her grandsons' and great grandchildren's activities. Survivors include two daughters: Sue Fisher and husband Lynn of Keswick and Kay Slouha of Cedar Rapids; three grandsons: Matt Fisher and wife Dara, Mark Fisher and wife Renee and Kurt Slouha and wife Jennifer and seven great grandchildren: Hannah, Emma, Tessa and Bridget Fisher and Caleb, Lauren and Delaynee Slouha. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother: Floyd, Jr. in infancy; sister: Dorla Jones and son-in-law: Rodney Slouha. Memorial graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 28, 2005, at the Abel Cemetery in rural Hedrick. A memorial visitation will be held from 5:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 28, 2005, at the Reynolds-Powell Funeral Chapel in Sigourney. A memorial fund has been established for the Sigourney Public Library. Reynolds-Powell Funeral Chapel and Cremation Service in Sigourney is handling the arrangements.
