Phyllis Mallams, 78, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, died Saturday, May 9, 2009, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. Open visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 13, 2009, from 12:00 noon until 7:00 p.m., at the Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel in Mt. Pleasant. There will be no family visitation time. A funeral service will be held Thursday, May 14, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Pat Youngquist officiating. Inurnment will be in the Forest Home Cemetery at a later date. Memorials have been established to Henry County Relay for Life and The Fellowship Cup. The daughter of Perry C. and Luella Nickolaus Mathews, Phyllis Marie was born at home in Henry County, IA, on November 17, 1930. She was a 1948 graduate of Pleasant Lawn School. On November 27, 1948, she married Marvin Mallams at Wesley Chapel. He survives. For a couple of years after her marriage, Phyllis was a bookkeeper for Henry County Memorial Hospital and then for many years a bookkeeper for Beulah Valley Farms and P.C.M., Inc. Phyllis's highest priority was her family and the family farm. She was a wonderful cook, enjoyed homemaking, and spending time in her yard at Baldknob. Phyllis was a member of First United Methodist Church, where she had been active in the United Methodist Women and at the Methodist Church Tent at Midwest Old Threshers in years past. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Henry County Cattleman's Association. Phyllis had been a 4-H leader and when her boys were young, a Cub Scout den mother. Along with her husband, Marvin, Phyllis is survived by two sons, Rick (Prudy) Mallams and John (Teresa) Mallams, all of Mt. Pleasant, IA; three sisters, Shirley (Bud) Madden of Olds, IA, Ruth Bridges of Minden, NE, and Charlotte (Marshall) McClure of Kansas City, MO; and six grandchildren. Mrs. Mallams was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Margaret Leu.
