KEOTA-Phyllis J. Vincent, age 79, of Keota, died Wednesday, January 19, 2010, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. Phyllis was born June 26, 1931, in Washington, Iowa, to Philip and Helen (McCrabb) George. She graduated from Keota High School and received her B.A. from the University of Northern Iowa. On March 3, 1951, she married Dale E. Vincent at the Federated Church in Keota. Phyllis was employed as a social worker and administrator for the Iowa Department of Human Services and Washington County for 23 years, retiring in 1992. She was a member of the United Church of Faith, Heritage Agency on Aging Advisory Council and its Budget and Planning Committee, Community Counseling Advisory Board, County Social Welfare Board, was Secretary of the State Relief Director Association, Heartland Home Health Care Advisory Board, Lending Hands, Inc. Board, Coalition of Senior and Community Services Board, Secretary of the Senior Citizen Tax Force in Washington County, Mental Health Advisory Board in Washington County, Orchard Hill Care Review Committee and was a founding member of Hospice of Washington County. Phyllis enjoyed reading and traveling. Survivors include three sons: Philip E. Vincent and wife Jane of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Douglas D. Vincent and wife Nancy of Coralville and Carl D. Vincent of Keota; one grandson: Paul Freitag of Milwaukee and a sister-in-law: Alice George of Keota. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Dale in 1989 and brother: Robert George. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 22, 2010, at Powell Funeral Home in Keota, with Rev. Dennis Hopes officiating. Burial will be at Keota Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 21. 2010, at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established for the Washington Library, Wilson Memorial Library or Lending Hands, Inc.
