Phyllis Hall, age 93, died following a short illness on Thursday, March 24, 2005, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, IA. Celebration of Life Services will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, March 26, 2005 at the Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North English. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday, March 25, 2005 from 4 PM to 8 PM. A memorial Fund has been established for the North English Library. (Don) Hall Of North English; two sons: Dick Hall of North English and Don (Lanny) Hall & his wife Lynda of Chicago, IL; and a sister, Louise Hahn of North English, IA. Phyllis Hall was born on October 5, 1911, on a farm near Brooklyn, IA a daughter of Benjamin F. And Ion W. Shannon Torrance. She attended country school and graduated from Brooklyn High School in 1931. Phyllis took Normal Training in high school and later taught 4 years in country schools near Brooklyn. Phyllis married Orlando Donald Hall on June 2, 1936 in Rock Island, IL. They made their home in Brooklyn and lived briefly in Illinois and Missouri before coming to North English. Don and Phyllis owned and operated O.D. Hall Appliance in North English. She was a member of the North English United Methodist Church, the UMW, the Fortnightly Club and served on the Library Board. Phyllis loved to read, was a good cook, enjoyed playing games and had a great sense of humor. She lived 93 years, 5 months and 19 days. Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents and a sister Esther Averill.
